  13.6.8 exercise 8: anteriority and posteriority of the gerund

It doesn't matter whether the gerundio is a modal adverbial adjunct or a subordinate clause (modal clause, causal clause, concessive clause, if clause) the anchor is always the finite verb. The action / event described by the gerund happened before, at the same time or after the events described by the finite verb. Therefore, there must exist also two kinds of gerundios, one that described the event / actions as something that happened before the events / actions described by the finite verb and another one that describes these events as something that happens at the same time or after. Select in the following sentences the correct form in the given context.

exercise 8:  
di più mi potrò comprare una casa.
If I save more I can buy a house.
meno soldi per sciocchezze, mi potrei comprare una casa.
If I had spent less money for nonsense, I could buy a car.
Non ciò che aveva detto, domandò un'altra volta.
Because he didn' t understood what he had said, he asked again.
Non dove si trovava, domandò a un poliziotto.
Because he didn' t know where he was, he asked a police officer.
Pur non molto, superò l' esame.
Although he hadn' t study a lot, he passed the exam.
Pur non mai, supera tutti gli esami.
Although he never studies he passes all his exams.
molto diplomatico, riuscì a risolvere il problema.
Being very diplomatic he resolved the problem.
di non parlare inglese, riuscì a farsi lasciare in pace.
Feigning that he didn' t speak English he succeded in being left alone.
