causal clause

The substitution of a causal clause by a past participle is only possible if the causal relationship is due to the cronological order. If the causal relationship has nothing to do with the cronological order the causal clause can only be abbreviated with a gerundio.

The causal relationship is due to the cronological order

The causal relationship is not due to the cronological order

*Perhaps it is to strong to say that the substitution with a participio passato or a infinito passato is not possible but in any case the gerund is much better in this case.
